Bohemia was founded in 1855 by Czech immigrants who gave the hamlet its name, its landmark St. John Nepomucene Church on Locust Avenue, and a heritage the Bohemia Historical Society still preserves today. On its western edge sits the vast Connetquot River State Park Preserve, whose trails and stables give Bohemia a genuine equestrian streak, and it is not unusual to see horses on the tree-lined streets.
That mix of history and community makes Bohemia a natural home for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Bohemia and Oakdale kids attend the same Connetquot Central School District, sharing the Oakdale-Bohemia Middle School, so plenty of our students are neighbors and classmates.
